How do you refute taxes on your home? | Finance information

Question by jade_jayd : How do you refute taxes on your home
I am in the process of closing on a home. I was lucky enough to buy it for less than its appraised 20.000 dollar value. My problem is that I am being told that I have to pay the taxes based on the appraised value (rather than the amount I actually paid for it) for the remainder of this year (2007), and that I am not able to refute them to have them lowered, till next year. Is this correct? Another source also told me that I have to file the paperwork to refute the taxes by April 30th of this year or I will be unable to have them lowered at all next year, (2008). Can anyone give some clarification on this process? Thanks ahead of time Best answer:

Answer by Wayne Z The appeals process varies by
