The Importance of Small Business Branding | G7 Design

Business Tips ? September 2012 (Vol. 1, Issue 12)

Traditionally, branding as a field of business focuses on large organisations that invest vast budgetary amounts in developing their brands to ensure that they are recognised throughout all circles of potential customers, and the general public. Nevertheless, branding is also particularly relevant to SME firms including your own.

First we should ask ? what is a branding? Your brand is usually the name and graphic identity by which your customers, associates, contacts and stakeholders will recognise your business. Right now, there are many small businesses undertaking branding strategies without even knowing it! Any company that advertises in the newspaper, radio, leaflet, etc. is actually developing their brand. It is understood that a small minority of people exposed to these advertisements will actually need those services there and then, but the hope is that when the time comes that they need the services, they will remember the company by its brand over and above all others.

Currently your web site, letterheads, business cards, etc. may carry your company?s name and perhaps a logo. You must ask yourself the question ? how memorable is my branding? If you are not convinced that your branding will have the right impact, or will not be remembered, it is high time you addressed this pivotal aspect of your business. This is important because individuals are bombarded by dozens of marketing messages on a daily basis, and as such, you need to ensure that your brand is remembered by potential customers. This also makes a difference, insomuch as whether your promotional efforts will succeed or fail.
