F&P jobs to go - Union

Union sources say 29 jobs will go from Fisher & Paykel Appliances' refrigeration factory in Auckland as the firm moves more work to Thailand.

Members of FIRST Union and the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union have been told one of the production lines is being discontinued.

EPMU National Secretary Bill Newson said the work was going to FPA's factory in Rayong, Thailand, which was a low-wage economy.

He said Fisher & Paykel Appliances had disputed the story on radio, but they had been told of the redundancies by the company's own HR staff.

Calls to the company had not been returned by mid afternoon.
