THERE are plenty of reasons to step up for a fight.

It could be for a shot at the title, to prove yourself to a woman you love, or to burn off that delicious burger you just devoured.

Indulging in a burger will require 24 minutes of boxing competition to burn off the 1389kjs.

That calculation is one of many made by new Medibank smart phone app Energy Balancer.

The free program helps users see what activity they will have to do and for how long to burn off the calories gained from food and drink.

It is designed to complement existing diet plans and exercise regimes to help users make healthier decisions.

The app has about 55 activities to choose from, ranging from running, weightlifting and a variety of sports to standing, playing computer games, vacuuming, talking on the phone and intimate activity.

They can be matched up with a variety of foods and drinks including wines and spirits, fish and chips, chocolates and pastas.

Professional Muay Thai fighter Brodie Stalder, 24, knows just how important it is to keep his weight in check.

He's currently dropping the kilos for the weigh-in tomorrow night ahead of a fight on Saturday at the Maroochydore Basketball Centre in Buderim.

He will fight Perth's Danial "Mini T" Williams in the 55kg range.

He said the new phone app could be helpful for those who did not know how to manage their caloric intake and output.

"I think it's awesome. Some people don't realise what they eat can have a massive impact," he said.

"They don't know what they have to do to work it off. It will probably open a few eyes into how many calories people are intaking."

Mr Stalder said it could be tough eating properly if you weren't in the right frame of mind.

His current diet consists of oats with banana for breakfast, ham and salad wraps and an orange later in the day, a bowl of salad for lunch and fish or red meat with salad or vegetables for dinner.

"I find it pretty easy to keep my weight in check. If you get used to eating like that it's no problem at all."

BE CAREFUL OF WHAT YOU EAT

If you weigh 70kgs (Average weight for women according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics) then...

After enjoying one serving of hot chips, it will take just over two hours of verbal arguing to burn off the 1255kj.

If you were to drink six pints of beer, you'd have to play computer games for 7 hours and 11 minutes to burn off the 4320kjs.

Chocolate muffins are great, but you'll have to talk on the phone for four hours and 38 minutes to get rid of the 2300kjs.

If you enjoy three serves of chocolate (five bits of chocolate per serve), you'll have to go shopping for an hour and 56 minutes with the kids to burn off the 1938kjs.

A single serve of lasagne will require 4 hours and 26 minutes of active intimate activity to burn off the 2176kjs.
